Are These Mites?

Same here. I blast the elms too. I don't see any reaction. I get rose chafers eating my leaves.
I always suspected it was some hogwash I read I a book a while back... But when there is no need to press the issue, I tend to avoid the potential offense just to be careful.

Aphids seem to prefer new, soft growth
You are right...I only see them on the fresh growing tips with new leaves. I don't have any Bayer right now so I am just getting what I can with my fingers and will repeat the Neem Oil again in about a week or so. I know it isn't as surefire as the Bayer but I read that it takes some time to work.

Thanks for the help guys!

I just wanted to update this about my aphid issue. I checked all my fresh leaves today and saw zero signs of the aphids. I know a couple of you guys said the Neem Oil might not work but it seemed to work pretty well. I did remove all I could see with my fingers so I am sure that helped as well.

I think I just got a crappy batch of Neem oil or something... Mine does Ok on minor fungal stuff, but bugs don't seem to care about it at all! I have read these mild insecticidal soaps can stop working after a while too because the bugs build up an immunity. Might just need to switch things up more often on those little sap suckers!

Really glad to hear you got rid of those Aphids Jarrod.. They love to snack on the Quince as well, so keep an eye on that one I sent you!

When they go after my Crabapples I found it easiest to blast them off with a hose set to jet. When they dry I spray once and done ;) Glad you have it under control!
