I just moved from PA 6b to CA 9b, so for sure I don't need to worry about winter protection now. All my prior layers were separated and overwintered in 6b though.

I the midwest I tried to make sure I had 4 - 5 weeks between separation of air layers and the first hard freeze. In California, not a problem unless you're up in the mountains.

Just remember an air layer is a starch dump so rich in anti freeze.

Good to know! Probably why we can leave these on the tree over the winter.
