Arctic blast... already?

We've already had these low temps and everything is under mulch and snow cover before this storm hit. Trees have been completely buried in snow for weeks.

I'm just watching the shark's circle but not attacking yet. I set up a cam after seeing tracks.

That's not me off leash, a 3 foot snow drift for perspective. :) Mossberg is warm & ready for this stubby legged fat boy. 😂
My advice...

... and do it with EXTREME PREJUDICE

I'm seriously worried about my crape myrtle in the garage. It didn't wake up until the very end of July and I was advised not to let it see a frost. I didn't think it really fell below freezing in there but with the prolonged low temps we've had the automatic waterer in the garage for the cats has been frozen. :(
Hi Flower Girl,
Crape Myrtle can take quite a bit of cold. I have never lost one due to the cold... And we have seen the low teens on the 2021 freeze. I think it will be ok if the temp on the garage didn't get lower than 20. I have so many crape that I wouldn't mind sending to you if the one you have didn't wake up.

That sounds worrying. I have two crape myrtles in northern Illinois and they wake up as soon as temps start to warm and daylight lengthens. I keep mine in the garage and when the garage starts to freeze, I move them to a cold, non-freezing basement. Move them back to the garage in March.

If your plants are taking so long to wake up, they could be dealing with root or shoot damage that they suffered in the winter.

That's very generous of you, hopefully mine will be OK. 🤞

It's been so cold all my trees in the unheated garage are pretty much frozen solid. Something about the soil being solid like a cinder block will always make me worry, but can't do a thing about it.

No end to the temps in sight either.

Daughter started the long drive from Memphis to Boston late yesterday afternoon. Hoping to be picking up the key to her apartment in Boston sometime tomorrow 🙏. A nor’easter is scheduled to hit southeastern New England next weekend with another foot plus of snow possible in Boston🙁

I get worried about this too. I had a pine get partly freeze dried needles when its pot froze in my garage.
This is why I opened the cold frame and let it snow in there then closed it. Hoping it will help keep the humidity up in there.

I hope she has a safe, uneventful trip. No matter how old our kids get, we never stop worrying about them.
