anyone selling tree's?

I dont feel a new thread is necessary so I am just going to ask here.

Where can I aquire a, preferably bald, cypress for a lower end price? I am looking for a raw stock or prebonsai tree because I cant afford a semi finished tree. Size/condition isnt a factor, Really the most important character I want in the tree is good taper (at least a little start, just not a telephone pole), which is what makes them so beautiful (and expensive!). Any recommendations or people looking to clear some bench space?

Also for the og post I suggest ebay, but they go fast so you have to keep an eye out for good stock.

Better still------why not find out where they can be dug up and go dig up some for yourself. That way you can pick and choose and not rely on the mercy of others. I believe they grow wild in your state?

Although I have seen them on a highway about 20 minutes from here, they are just so far and few inbetween in my area it would be a serious stroke of luck to not only find one, but one thats suitable for bonsai. It would be amazing to be able to collect one here though.

I'm probably mistaken, but I believe it is against the law in NC to collect Bald Cypress...maybe it has something to do with being a wetlands species??? I have heard that from a couple different people but never done the research myself.

Joe,

I have very little in the way of BC for sale right now and most of what I do have might be out of your price range. I do have one un-worked tree that might work?? It was collected in the summer of 2012 and would be what I consider a medium size..probably 30+" currently. I don't ship, but if you are planning to go to the expo in October I could bring it with me. Pm me if you would like more details.

JoeR,

Not sure where in NC you are, but you should take a ride over to see Brad at the Bonsai Learning Center in Mooresville. He has lots of trees.

JoeR,

If johng is willing to sell one of his bald cypress, you would be wise to take him up on the offer. His trees are nice.

Thanks so much for the offer, however I dont think I will be able to attend anything in october because of vacation. It is hard to pass up an offer as great as this though, but this is going to be my first Bald cypress (cant be too much different than other cypress right?), thus the reason I want it a little bit on the cheaper side in case something goes wrong.

Thanks again, Joe

Its on the other side of charlotte from me so roughly 2 hrs. I definently will visit when I am up there!

Depends on your definition of large. I just got a nice tree from prebonsai mark on facebook. He's on the bonsai classified page and sells lots of prebonsai japanese maple and other species. I was very happy with my tree and it is under the price you list there.
About that,
It started off nice and he sent me photo's. Then I broke it to him that I found a different place for cheaper and I needed trunk movement. After that, he made a post about what just happened, and blocked me, and now I just deleted my Facebook.
oops, well that escalated quickly.

Plus, I don't appreciate him making a post about what happened and then everyone is responding and saying, "well said" or "that person's full of crap"
YUP, Im officially done with social networking. And thats why my Facebook is gone.

ok i'll bite. What was the purpose of telling him you found better stock cheaper by you? That will be taken as an insult to any seller who's trying to run their business the best way possible. Whether he was right or wrong in his post is another story.

Why not just respond to the pics he sent and say "not exactly what i'm looking for"? Did you think he would lower his price if you said you found stuff cheaper?

The thing is Mark is a good guy. I think he might be overwhelmed trying to expand his nursery, manage all the material and deal with customers who have many different wants/needs. He is one of the few quality growers here in the northeast and I think over the next few years his business will explode. He should be supported because he is catering to bonsai enthusiasts needs.

your right, I didn't mean to be rude. I probably should've just said not what Im looking for.
Well, another lesson learned. I think marks a good guy, I probably came across rude to him.
But hey, thank you very much

Mark is great and I have gotten some really nice stock from him. I could see how those comments would upset him though, but venting about customers (which I have seen on his facebook in the past) is not good either as a professional business person.
