There are tons of places to buy trees online. Places like evergreen garden have some stock that is grown specifically for bonsai purposes and are reputable dealers. You can find these great retailers and more by searching. There was already a thread listing retailers people on the forums use and trust here: http://bonsainut.com/forums/showthread.php?15375-List-of-online-retailers . Hope that helps.

Edit: Lots of users here also have good links at the bottom of their posts. These links range from blogs for advice to links to online retailers and bonsai clubs. Try these also as they may lead to good ideas.

Plant City Bonsai I purchased a wisteria and a Kojo No Mai. If your interested in something you just call. If they have it. They will either send you an email or a text photo. Steve is a great guy to work with. Out of all my material that came shipped his by far was tip top and a workout to unpackage. But...appreciated.

I also purchased material through New England Bonsai Gardens. Also packaged well.

I know another member who purchased through Miami Tropical Bonsai with good results.

What I like about all three...you see all the material your purchasing. Not comparable stock. There are members here that also sell. But, I would rather not list them and forget another. So I will let someone else pipe in on that account.

Miami tropical definitely has some great stuff. I frequent the nursery as its driving distance from my house and they have (according to them) 50,000 tropical plants at different stages of development ranging from less than $20 to over $10,000. Not sure how the tropicals will hold up in Utah but worth a shot if you can find a place to winter them, I did after all see you have a rather large ficus in another post, so maybe you're set up for it. I also agree with the actual photo of the plant instead of the comparable stock, makes me feel more secure buying online.

There is a Bonsai Classified Facebook site at:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/311535095608900/

Some nice trees. You need to join the group to bid on the trees. It is an auction type environment. Read the info at the top to get an idea how it works. Next auction starts on 8/25 at 7:00 eastern time. You can sell trees as well.

You have to share what your price range is. Most bonsai vendors could be pricey.

There is a section right here within the forum that sells trees.

As far as forum members... There's Don Blackmond, Zach Smith, Andy Smith, and Bob Pressler just to name a few. There are many more, but that's all I can remember.

Ebay is another good one. Seeing as you're underage, I recommend a Visa giftcard.

there have been some reasonably priced trees on the bonsai classified facebook page. I've also purchased material from Zach Smith at bonsai-south.com. Very good prices and very helpful in general with my trees and questions about trees.

Price range is important, though. As you're new, you might consider some nursery stock from a local retailer for a season or so while you practice some techniques and horticulture. That'd give you some time to build up funds for nicer material when you were confident and ready.

Good luck.

There are plenty of people who sell trees, you can also check out the FB Bonsai Swap page. If you can get an idea of what you want, PM me and I'll let you know who the best place to get it from.

If you can find a club that's probably the best place to find material- there's always members looking to get rid of stock, club auctions, collecting activities...

Hi,
Thanks everyone. I got an email from the growing grounds. They sent me pictures of their stock. How much do they charge?
Thanks,
Porter

Charge for what? trees? wouldn't that be up to them?

Do a search here on the forum for the growing grounds, mixed reviews worth a read.

I dont feel a new thread is necessary so I am just going to ask here.

Where can I aquire a, preferably bald, cypress for a lower end price? I am looking for a raw stock or prebonsai tree because I cant afford a semi finished tree. Size/condition isnt a factor, Really the most important character I want in the tree is good taper (at least a little start, just not a telephone pole), which is what makes them so beautiful (and expensive!). Any recommendations or people looking to clear some bench space?

Also for the og post I suggest ebay, but they go fast so you have to keep an eye out for good stock.

Check out sunbright bonsai (also sells on ebay) or bonsai south (bnut member). Both websites are in the list I just posted

Or go to a local nursery and buy one to chop

where could I find large japanese maples and trident maples?
less than $200 please
thanks

Zach Smith at bonsai south has great BC. He is a member here. Google him or his nursery, or look him up here.

Depends on your definition of large. I just got a nice tree from prebonsai mark on facebook. He's on the bonsai classified page and sells lots of prebonsai japanese maple and other species. I was very happy with my tree and it is under the price you list there.

You are asking for premium qualities at bargain prices... I have some raw stock ranging from 1 gallon to that which requires a front end loader to move. Much better than a lot of what you see on Ebay IMO. If you like, PM me your price range and size preferences and I can send you pictures.

JoeR,

Johng on BNut, in Columbia SC sells some nice BC from time to time. You may want to PM him and search some of his posts here on BC.
