Any thoughts on this old pot?

I found this pot at an antique show last year. Snagged it at a very reasonable price. I knew it was older Japanese and figure it is from the Meiji period. But that is about all I know. I did see a similar one on EBay that had to be by the same kiln and probably artists too—the shape and painting style were identical. The seller ID-ed as Meiji.

It is about 9.5” tall and 8”across.

I bought it because I liked it and didn’t have a specific tree for it (yet). Any ideas of the right tree? Obviously a flowering tree would be ideal. Thoughts? Until the right tree comes along, something to enjoy for what it is.

I would consider Chojubai Dwarf quince Red Flower as a possibility in an upright style single trunk. They like a deeper pot for the roots and the Red would look good with the blue. Their dark green small leaves with reddish tinge would be a good match as well.

At the risk of sounding very ignorant...I'll say that I love those pots for display alone, on a shelf....they're too busy for me, too distracting from a potential tree...just one man's opinion.

Hi, Any update? I think you are very lucky to have it for the price you mentioned in the other post.. Did you find a plant for it? I got a smaller one but my quince it is still in training so in the minetime I enjoyed on display.. I understand that many considered to '' busy'' for bonsai but hey most people have more than' bonsais' what pots are they using for those plants? Any way! Have you find any site with info about that kind of old 'flower pots? There is so little info!

So here is my 'flower pot' unmarked, hopefully early to middle 20th century Chinese in good conditions about 7.9"/20cm H x 10.2/26cm, unfortunately, it wasn't as cheap as Gsquared nice pot... I believe there are quite a few hidden from this forum! How much do you think it cost in your country at the moment? Does anyone know or could suggest where to find information about this type of pots? More comments?

Natal Plum? Nice dark green foliage and manageable on a continuing basis as a houseplant in a good window. More bonsai-ish than rigorous Pines, but then you can't have a Pine in the house...

This pot is a Japanese antique from the early part of this century. It may not actually be from Japan, but I'm pretty sure it passed Japan on the way here. It may have even been in the store with Japanese pots nearby.
