I dug this yew from the front yard of my antique colonial in MA in either 2008 or 2009...honestly, I don't remember. It came south with me with little root and even less foliage and has essentially been languishing next to a bench in my yard ever since. Despite no re-pot and sporadic feed, the yew grew, albeit slowly. You can see a picture of the fiddle head ferns that came with it from MA, entangled in the small amount of yew roots I originally collected. Well, I finally decided that it had developed enough of a foliage mass to at least move it into a bonsai pot to, perhaps, start it down the path to something worth working.

Cool project!

That pot's not quite wide enough...

I think a pot the same shape as my juniper would be perfect.

But you've got plenty of time to worry about that.

Is the trunk alive down on the left? Would be great to get some foliage on that side.

That one buys you a ticket into the Redneck Study Group for sure! We meet on Sadie Hawkins Day!

That pot, a nice tokoname pot I've had for a long time, is a perfect fit for the roots to grow and it's wired in there tight and ain't movin'. Still, if you want to swap pots, I'm cool with it;). There's only one live vein, smack dab in the middle of the deadwood trunk. It, along with the deadwood, seem to move to the right. I haven't picked a front yet, but I'm actually thinking it's going to be very close to the one we've got with the current planting orientation. I bet once I'm done pruning and wiring the foliage, and reducing the deadwood, you may change your mind about the size of this pot...still up for swapping pot's, though:D:D.

No, it's not the size, it appears that the tree is in there sideways. Of course, I'm not there to see it, but it appears to me the front should be as if you're looking at it from the front right corner.

It is pretty cool but you may as well send it to me as it will never be eligible to be in your organization - "Drop Branch Literatis R Us"!
