I found a place with a ton of saplings, I dug one up to experiment and lost some of the tap root so we’ll see how that recovers.

I do plan going back in the fall to collect a few more during cooler weather.

Have you ever experimented with air layering one?

No ive never air layered one. People say its hit or miss with oak tree air layers. It would more than likely need two seasons to produce enough roots. you would also probably need to open the layer back up if it calloused without making roots. Im ground layering a different species of oak and its working but its taking a while.
