I just plucked this leaf off of one of my collected American beeches. Does anyone have any idea what this is? It’s on all of the leaves and it is shiny like silvery on the undersides.

I did, I didn’t see any. The spots do not wipe off the undersides.

I hate to do it but I may have to go get a seven dust sprayer and just hose down my whole nursery area. If it is something sucking up sap where there’s one there’s bound to be many more.

Must be a lot warmer down there in the flatlands. My beech buds have swelled but not opened yet.

Many Beeches here are still dormant. Whats crazy is that mature Copper beeches everywhere are in full leaf, while many green ones are just about beginning to move, some have opened or have buds only just turning green, its mad that many elms are even behind beech this spring.

Yea, I’ve already gotten 6-8” of growth on some already. They are growing crazy fast this year.

Does anyone know of a systemic that works on Eriophyid mites?
The link mentioned oil sprays which was also my first thought. I am dealing with a similar issue with the grapes in my garden and haven’t found a systemic but a regular nematicide did reduce the symptoms. This year I will try to hit them upon bud opening (now), as they overwinter in the buds and than they haven’t established their galls which protect them. I think that would be the best approach for you starting that next year. For this year I would try the oil.

it would be interesting to know when they migrate to the new buds deleafing at the right moment might help.
