Apologies Alexandra,

@my nellie ,

for the late reply. Yesterday was fertiliser day and the other days - repainting house.

There are no images of these plants as they came from nurseries.
Enjoy
Antonio

Fukien tea bought at the Aranguez Nursery, it was 15 cm tall and had an unusual
look. Plus, at the time a test was being done with a soil mix made from Leca and
aged compost.

You might see at the top of thepot, the fired clay pebbles

So the plant was brought home and the soil washed off in a bucket of water.

Elm cultivar - source originally Canada - brought in by one of the Chinese Johns.

Somehow ended up at the San Antonio nursery.
When purchased was a 1 m whip.
Not a great elm type, was almost "finished " and ready for a 2.5 cm deep pot
and the experimental 3 mm soil,
Branchlet died on the first branch, why ??????????????

You cannot see it, but buds are forming, out of dormancy.
Same bare rooting treatment as above.

From the JAL - you asked - what they look like today.
[ Please note as the JAL went, it is believed that the entries were
only included for variety of countries - NOT quality of work ]

The Gmelina has been shown many times - forgive

The Serissa if still alive was given as gift to someone in China.
Not the pot or soil. Just the shrub.

And if I have not shown you this before - Surprise.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question (on the other thread of yours). I appreciate your time.
Do you mind if I ask you further?
I don't mean to check on you. But given that you "do things differently" :) I would like to know : Have you or Khai been ever tempted to plant young trees in the ground so that you can get faster growth?

The Fukien tea, how long are you going to let it grow free. Looks like you are not happy with it yet.

Very pleasant surprise the "Alexandra" fustic. I suppose it is a cutting from the tree in your garden... if I remember correctly you've said this... but perhaps I'm wrong.
So now you are growing out the branches, aren't you?
How old is this tree? It has been growing into this bonsai pot all the time?

@my nellie ,

Αλεξάνδρα,
we use what Trinidadians call a plant trough.
Here is an image of what cutting is being developed.

This is the fustic that comes close in branchlets to a zelkova.
Waiting for the wound to close.
Then another cut.

This would be our version of a young tree, mostly cuttings.

The Fukien tea is just for observations - how well does it grow in
hydroponic pebbles.

The Alexandra Fustic is another enjoyable experiment.
How many branchlets can you get in a bonsai pot.
Age unknown - maybe 4 years ????

Just started repotting. Ficus p.
This how we learn down here - get many of the same tree and
keep doing.
Nights are back to low 70's deg,F [ 21.1 deg.C ]
So repotting has started.
More later.
