A new potting bench

I need a place to pot & keep plants that need more shade. looked at plans & came up with this. I will finish it tomorrow.
That is a nice potting bench! Plenty of room for a mixing tub. You can hang tools on the side too. Could even add a shelf off those lower supports.

What kind of lumber did you use? Are you going to seal or stain it?

I found these plans from Ryobi Nation / Ana White which were pretty simple and it come with a nice cut list. My only complaint is that 1x4s for the table top are a bit flimsy in the center and a reinforcement beam could be added. I may add some hangers underneath the table surface for a tub to catch debris etc.

I didn't seal or stain yet, might not even bother because it is under the patio roof.

It is messy now but here's a picture of how it came out:

I saw some utube builds & took from that what I thought I could use. The size was limited to the space I have. It is 3x3 foot.

It is all common 2x4 lumber. I will stain it with some solid color stain. The legs are 4x4 lumber. about $80 total & a day & 1/2 to build this.

I’m a worker bee & am always looking for something to do.

I had thought about using thinner top wood but the difference in cost was $5. This will be here when I'm long gone!

I finished it this morning, added a lower shelf & a coat of solid color stain.
I will move it under our ficus tree for some shade.

That looks great! The lower shelf is definitely a plus. One thing I've been meaning to do on mine is cover any work-level or shelf-level screws with wood filler and sand-down, just to make it smoother and less likely to hold debris.

Your bench looks like it will last a lifetime!

Plant bench is in its new home under a shady benjamina ficus. I will use it for potting & triming my trees & as a shady place for less sun hardy trees. The sun is brutal here.

The plant bench is doing fine, can’t say that for the ficus. The roots were getting under the house foundation & cracking the floor inside a utility room so they were removed. For shade we put a metal frame up & fasten a shade cloth To it.

A friend had some left over lumber & I needed another bench. I like how it turned out.
I added some steel angle brackets to the house & bench for support.

Nice benches both! I realize that I will need a proper potting bench, and looking for ideas. I have like…no real tools or space for them, besides drivers and hammers, so something that can be constructed from off the shelf parts would be ideal.

I use a drafting table and fold the top and slip it out of the way in the greenhouse when not in use.
This is a great idea. If I had an indoor (or greenhouse) space I would hop on this!
