A few photos...

Hi Brian, fantastic collection. Thanks very much for sharing.

How is that spruce you got from Brent? I ended up passing on the oriental spruce that he had, but picked up a couple of very nice collected Englemanns from Nature's Way this past year.

Its doing ok. Peter cut it back hard last fall, anticipating work this winter if it did well after repotting this spring.

It had been in that 5-gal can for a very long time, so it took a lot of work to repot it. It recovered fine, with no damage, but moved very slow this year. Lots of buds set for next year, but I've been hold off doing any work just to be sure it's strong. Maybe over Christmas...

Funny, it looks rough like this, but with just a few guy wires, it wouldn't look like the same tree.

When I repotted it, I added some loops of copper running up through the drain holes, just inside the edge of the pot at the soil level to serve as anchors for the guy wires. 30 minutes of work should do it!

Very nice - that trunk and bark are fantastic, thanks for sharing.

Hello Brian,
How is this oriental spruce? I saw a seedling and started looking for information or caring needs.
Would be great to hear you experience with these.

Rishi.

Hi Rishi, the ezo spruce is doing great, considering how much I've pushed it over the last two years. It's still in full sun, and I've been watching it for signs of stress in the hot sun, and so far have not seen anything to indicate its time for shade. It's thirsty, misted very regularly, and fed heavily.

Here is a post covering the last couple years.

This is a shot from today...unruly as anything, but I think it needs to grow strong for this year and next with minimal interference.

Wow looks great, thanks for the picture update.
The oriental spruce I saw has a 1" trunk and was thinking of a forest group, at present
Their more like Christmas tree shape so no real movement in trunk and with any luck do you think it's worth trying to bend that 1" size? I didn't buy any (yet) lol so no pic yet.
Rishi.
