3 New BC

I'm quite surprised because I've never heard of them being collected in summer time with success. Good to see and learn that it can be done.

Just an update with pics of this year's growth after collection earlier this year. They have grown very well and I even had lots of roots growing through the drain holes today when I tried to move them around.

Very excited to work on these guys next Spring! I will be watching John's videos again for the 100th time. ;)

WOW!!! Those are happy looking cypress...my one collected cypress that survived only has 20% of the foliage that yours has. Lots to work with there.

Those look great....Thank you for the update.

They have definitely enjoyed the full sun and heavy feeding. I think the large amount of organics keeping them nice and moist to help them transition to life in pots was a huge help...especially with the insane heat we have here. I also really see a huge difference in the better tree (with the large knee) as the amount of fine roots at collection was much higher.

Great material to work with, Jarrod. I didn't see where anyone mentioned it, but you need to remove about a third off the top of each trunk. You can then go through the steps of building the tapering transition over the next few years as you work on each tree. I'm sure John has some videos that demonstrate this process.

Thanks Zach. I will be chopping them back next Spring. I thought about doing it yesterday since they have to go in a Uhaul next month (moving to Indiana), but I was afraid I might get some dieback over the winter.

Yes, not the time to chop this year. Be sure to seal the cuts when you make them.

Nice work. Love your tree stand

Sweet looking trees! I am currently on the hunt for a nice spot to harvest some sexy BC or PC. I have a buddy with about 60 acres of swamp, so when I get the time I like to go out and hunt for the sexiness. Most of his cypress and pines are much too large to try to collect, or are really just babies with very small trunks. It's almost like someone came and took all of the tree sizes I am looking for... Anyways, good find and look forward to seeing what u do with these beauties.

Ohh and how did the 3rd tree turn out, u mentioned it was lacking in the growth department...

thats a lot of growth, cool stuff. quite surprising.

Thanks. You would be surprised how easy these come out if they are growing in water. Dont let the big ones scare you.

And the 3rd one was totally dead. When I made my lamp out of it I noticed a boring insect had taken its liberty with it. I imagine it was weakening over time and I did it in while collecting.

Thanks! I was surprised myself and look forward to working on them again next Spring.
