Purchased today. Undecided on the final plan but potentially will consider air layers or a multi-trunk clump type thing. Idk. Definitely needs a repot next year into a flat box. Goal is to get it fully healthy by end of summer. Looks like it was in shade or did not get enpugh sun. I fertilized. I didnt see any immediate pest threats but on an overcast day Ill give it a spray of malthion as a precaution.

Nice hunk of wood there.. I’d like to see some grafting to make a sumo shohin, but I know the style is not for everyone.

Hey Orion. Big fan of clump shimpaku like this. It appears the trunks already have some wiggle. Here are pages out of the book “literati style penjing” of a progression of a single clumps type tree. May inspire some ideas!

Here is a thread of a tree I did that started similarly. https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/triple-trunk-shimpaku.51816/page-4#post-1188019

Either way should be a fun tree!
