Well I can't say no to a deal and this guy was 1 buck ,so he now lives on my bench. Not the greatest as the graft is blah but I went ahead and cut back and did a rough style. I'm now getting a good 2nd flush through out the tree. Who knows maybe I can turn it into a bonsai?o_O

When I have to give up the carving knife during the holidays in the future, that same cat is probably, (let's face it, hopefully!) gettin' some trees too!!*

Fun lil' project!
Love the needles.

*this is a young tree, just like WeeMac. Hopefully both grow stout and strong and carry on....:D
More bark for you, thick skin for him...Hehehee:rolleyes:

Lol 1$, was that symbolic I presume? Nice tree, almost for free ;)

Cool little tree!

Ok... I can't help myself... What's with the loose wire?

What loose wire?

Look at the first picture. A lot of the black aluminum wire has a sizable gap between it and the tree. It should be just lightly touching. If the wire doesn't touch the tree, it can't shape the tree. Of course, it should not be tightly wrapped, either. But, to be effective, it should be in contact with the wood. And when you're bending the branch after you've wired it, you should be bending it so that the wire is on the outside of the curves. Use your fingers to keep the wire in contact with the branch as you bend.

It's not just an aesthetic thing. It is an effectiveness thing. Wiring put on sloppily just won't work as well as wire that's applied properly.

I'm actually really good at wiring (pic to the right),0605151957a-2.jpg but after two 10% beer on this one it's still good wiring .............:p No need to spew your spiel. Not concerned to much, it does the job and it'll get a good wiring maybe in the fall or spring 2017.

I did say rough wiring did I not? And I knew what you where talking about I just couldn't help myself in goading you

Rough wiring means you wire the primary and maybe secondary branches. But not a detail wiring. It shouldn't be sloppy. Sloppy doesn't work as well, and it creates "hot spots" where wire cuts in more in places. And, when the wire is loose, with gaps like you have, it really is easy to accidentally snap a branch when bending. Properly applied wire actually protects the branch, preventing you from over bending it.

By the way, on your example of "really good wiring", I see a loose end, and a crossed wire.

Giga, you appear to be taking bonsai seriously. Wiring is fundamental to doing bonsai. The better you get at wiring, the better your bonsai will be.

LOLOLOLOLOL

when a unmovable object meets a unstoppable force, the wire crosses and you get a lot of earth leakage on the electric fence meant to keep the dogs inside and the leopards and honey badgers out. But now the badgers are badgering the dogs for treats and the leopards are mating with the housecat. I guess in the end you will sit with one heluva housecat that can uncross the wires and keep everything out the yard.

lil abstract much...

kind regards
Herman

just can't help yourself huh? That loose wire was cut and that crossed wire screwed up the entire branch........

Nice little score! Any plans on the bar branches?

yeah - when I wire it will have wiggle applied. The long term is as the ramification increase it will be cut back and new branches at other angles will be used since it flush twice a year.

Really?

This Japanese White Pine is a double flush pine?

Uh... I suggest that you NOT plan on that!

you do realize I have a picture a few post above of the second flush of growth, Not in the sense you taking me literally for.... your very exhausting on here. I also remember Ryan talking at a lecture where he would get 3 flushed of growth from a variety(can't remember which) of white pine and develop branches very quick.
