What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

I figured this was the place to put the update on what I did yesterday (https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/what-did-you-do-today-show-us-pic-required.58560/post-1196187 (I'll make a thread for this species in a bit) Anyway, I shelled about 60 seeds tossed them in some water with a little honey...

Has anyone here started watering every day yet?

I deeply water at least 2x a day (3x when 110F and higher) and run my overhead spray 6x a day for 2 minutes. The overhead sprays over the top of my shade cloth, in essence creating an evaporative cooler. Helps a lot when its 120+. :-)

Can anyone guess what kind of tree this is

I was comparing them to these leaves. Pretty close... I still want one!

What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

What does one do when you just got off work and it's 111F in Arizona? Well, you 100% remember a stand of the quite rare Olneya tesota (Desert Ironwood) in the median of a very busy street that has, for some strange reason, had a bumper crop of seed pods that you saw driving to the doctor a few...

Can anyone guess what kind of tree this is

I'll guess Simpson's Stopper (Myrcianthes fragrans). Fantastic bonsai species. One that has been on my bucket list for years. Just a guess however, I could be wrong (and probably am).

    Crepe Myrtle Air Layering

Yeah crepes should layer super fast as you can technically do log size cuttings with no trouble. Try angling the bottom of the layer to give yourself a little movement leaving the ground.

    bougainvillea with flowers

Here’s my little 2 year old cuttings today. The two middle ones I’m actually trying to work on more veg growth. It’s so hard here they want to flower all the time. I’m trying to decide what to do with at one in the cement tub… it’s got significant dead wood that should be carved by someone...

    @Bonsai Nut origin story

As someone who’s been around for a minute. (2008) I will forever be grateful for Greg’s contribution to my life. I got into bonsai around 1998 but obviously didn’t find this site until later. I will always consider this my my bonsai home. I have made countless friends, some who are and were...

    bougainvillea with flowers

Here's the deal. They are native to a tropical climate with a dry and a rainy season. In the rainy season, they grow veg, and in the dry season, they flower. Dry (relatively) = flowering. Damp (not wet feet) = veg. Here in Phoenix, I pretty much can't stop them; they flower year-round (except...

    Bougainvillea/Lantana pre-bonsai potting question

100% of these made it and are still kicking. The really nice lady that gave them to me cut them all out with a sawzall she put the two big ones in a buckets of water and the two smaller ones I grabbed out of a pile on the curb. She messaged a bonsai group on facebook for people to come get them...

    Bougainvillea/Lantana pre-bonsai potting question

Here is as good of a place as any to show a Phoenix Pink Pixie! This one is probably 10" at the base. It's in a whole row of them as landscape at IKEA. I was kind of temped I must admit LOL!

    Bougainvillea/Lantana pre-bonsai potting question

Most definitely. My way of doing this was adapted from the Phoenix Bonsai Society, at this link: PBS Easy to grow species. I was pretty shocked when I discovered they dig em up in the heat of summer, but it works! A member here (that's not active I don't believe) is a good friend and the current...

    Bougainvillea/Lantana pre-bonsai potting question

The thing about bougs is they hate root work any time but the hottest part of summer. You can chainsaw a log and stick it in a pot, and it will grow. Just defoliate and chop away. Put it in the shade till it pops leaves and you are gold. Now lantana is another beast. I have had luck in early...
