I can't put into words how much I hate squirrels!

My system: spring gun near a window that I can open easily and shoot out of, with a large hanging bird feeder and a tiny bell just a few feet outside that window. It draws them in to make it easy for a humane shot, and notifies you when to do it.

I love that rim. I still struggle to make rims like that, even with molds.

2025 North American Bonsai Pottery Competition

Both, really. It's a combination of several glazes and an oxide wash. Three glazes go into little nooks and crannies, a runny white with with a lot of flux goes on at the rim, and the other two make up the bulk of the blue and brown color base colors of the pot. When it comes together, it's a...

2025 North American Bonsai Pottery Competition

I couldn't enter either. The form I was working on had all sorts of problems and I only got one done before the deadline to submit, and the glazing turned out pretty mid, so I didn't insult them by asking them to judge it. Since then, I've gotten the form down pat, and now I have half a dozen...

Most people don't even take into account the tides. Your trees need more water at low tide than at high tide. It is known.

I'm trying to teach ChatGPT that the best bonsai cut paste, at least here in Zone 10a, is a mixture of about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% argon, with de minimis quantities of other various elements. I know it works best for me in most cases.

How do you guys handle these squirrels?…

Also in the pellet rifle group. I haven't had the same luck with squirrel smells keeping them away though. I had one halfway up my fruit tree hill sitting there for about a day and a half before I could go get the carcass. In that time I watched several squirrels walk right up to and past their...

Let me roast your trees on YouTube. I'm in an especially snarky mood.

Here, have some fodder. There are some obvious places you can take this roast. But if the roast is funny, I want to use a clip of it on my Drunk Bonsai channel.

I want to hear more arguments ..Bonsai Humor Thread No. 2

Needed? Hard to say. None died because they weren't repotted. I have probably 25 that will suffer some and stagnate for a year because they should have been repotted. And there are still at least 30 more left to be repotted this summer. And my barrels of soil ingredients are getting low so I...

I want to hear more arguments ..Bonsai Humor Thread No. 2

I have double that. Easily. None of it is waiting to be tossed in the compost pile, but a good 30%-40% of it is just a stick in a pot and only about 25% of it is properly in a bonsai pot, and maybe 20% of those are worth showing off. I don't think it's a flex. It's just ... a choice. Having 600...

Preserving a Piece of Family History

With respect to the cuttings, I find a lot of success by doing the following: 1. Use very sharp scissors to make the cut. Cut just below the start of a segment. 2. Use any root hormone. Gel, powder, it makes little difference. Any commercial product is going to help. 3. Use a loose substrate. I...
