I should also add, that first left branch is in a perfect position to become a powerful feature branch, it should directly contribute to swelling in the trunk base. One of a few factors that has prompted a radical change.
 
Like the direction and cut you did and agree that it seems will make it more interesting and better taper.
 
Little bit of work

The shoot coming from stub at back, is getting a little course, so cut it back. No need for wire, has a nice bend in it.

Cut back the two shoots from the right stub. Wired them, got bends in plus upward movement. Also, I need the leader in the middle to pick up pace, so these are strategic cuts.

The left stub is developing nicely and the shoots are getting some length. Have allowed that side free growth, also cleaned up that stub. This left side could also be wired up n out...
