    Hidden Gardens American Hornbeam Progression

Nothing substantial to report (insert sad face emoji). Ha! Re-growing the apex (again)... I'll get some pictures together when colors set in and after fall cut-back. Noah

New Brussel's Sharp's Pygmy where to prune?

I think they meant "graft," not great...

    Brussel's Sharps Pygmy Progression

No. Dormancy is as long as winter freezes and then the sub 40 F weather last. If you bring it inside early (December is WAY early) and it warms up and starts pushing growth in January or February, then you're going to be in trouble because the leaves will get no light in your garage. Inside your...

    Brussel's Sharps Pygmy Progression

The roots can freeze, Bob. And they can go pretty low. But I would try to keep above 15F and do your best to avoid freeze thaw cycles. If garage is too warm m(and I do think 45 F is too warm (others may disagree), then I would bury it in the garden along side the foundation of your house. Dig...

    Brussel's Sharps Pygmy Progression

Hi Bob, I would try for some dappled shade before for a week or two and then start transitioning it into more sun. I moved in 2019 and my tree went from partial shade all day into 1/2 day of sun and the leaves all bleached out and dropped. It did push new growth, but was not ideal. I...

    Jason's African acacia (now senegalia)

Ah, yeah... scratch that question. I see you're in zone 11a (lows of 5-9C)... Perhaps it was never meant to be (for me) in zone 5b, this acacia... i was never sure whether these things ever went dormant, and needed to go dormant, to maintain vigor...

    Jason's African acacia (now senegalia)

Can you describe your climate with respect to growing versus dormant season? Im in a temperate zone with big swings in temperature (30 to 35C average high temps in summer and -5 to 0C average in winter), so I bring my acacia inside each winter and it struggles to survive each winter. What is...

What it the most you have ever spent on a single bonsai pot? (results will be anonymous)

The Horst in the haystack… that’s my biggest layout. should be pretty easy to spot it.

“Watered” my trees. First snow of the season!

    Brussel's Sharps Pygmy Progression

Although not apparent from the pictures, the branching continues to develop. I also think I will repot into the yellow Horst Heinzlreiter oval in 2024. Photo is totally out of proportion, given that the pot is simply placed in front of the tree, but mostly showing for color contrast on fall...

    Evergreen Gardenworks Cedar Elm Progression

Nearing peak color. I don’t have a good set up for photos, and this photo doesn’t project true colors well… need a good black backdrop.

    RMJ progression

Those runners will be kept in check… as noted, still much editing to do. I was just at my temporary limit after wiring all branches and shoots. The tree now seems to weigh about about 10 kilos more with all the wire that was applied!

    RMJ progression

Just documenting another of my junipers that I have not yet documented. I acquired this tree in November 2020 from a friend and local club member, John Denny. It was collected from the Rocky Mountains (shockingly!) in 2012 by Randy Knight and first went into a bonsai pot in 2015. The initial...

    Acer Negundo (Boxelder Maple) #52

Here's a shot from a page in our local newsletter... but I have not seen the tree in person this spring. But short internodes still appear to be holding.

    Show Us Your Bonsai Benches

My set up. All pressure treated lumber, with post holes simply packed with paver stone so I they’re not permanent and I could potentially move them around as shade trees in my yard continue to get larger over the years. Very stable benches, each costing about $45 to construct (back in 2019!)
