    Help with juniper identification...

Agree with this comment. Yes they get juvenile foliage, but they are very quick to lose it. You really have to cut them back hard to get them to throw needle foliage. FWIW the original name for the Hollywood juniper is "Kaizuka". There are quite a few nurseries that still sell it by this name.

Garage To Bonsai Workshop Transformation! Need Your Wisdom!

I have a large walk-out basement area with double doors that lead directly to my bonsai shelves. I like having access to the heat in the winter, or the A/C in the summer. Some of the features: Plenty of shelving for pots / tools / chemicals. Three garbage cans on wheels that are full of soil...

Juniper Bonsai - stressed or dying?

Junipers take a while to recover from being repotted. They may pout for six months or a year before their growth takes off. However I don't see anything concerning with your tree. Don't forget - junipers will often change color in winter, going from a deep vibrant green to a greyish flat...

    Purchasing Trees Online

I would actually suggest the exact opposite. They grow for online retail customers only - and their stock is relatively expensive. I know two retail Japanese maple nurseries within an hour or two of Mr. Maple and they offer trees as good, if not better, at lower (in some cases much lower)...

    Purchasing Trees Online

Just make sure you buy special cultivars, or something that isn't broadly available. Don't waste the money buying a bloodgood, crimson queen, etc, that you could probably find at your local Lowes/Home Depot.

    Purchasing Trees Online

In a nutshell, the nursery trade sells trees based on pot size, because the practice is usually correlated with age of stock, and cost invested. In other words, 1 gallon pots until three years, 3 gallon pots until five years, or whatever. It is only the roughest of rough guidelines. You can...

Appraising Very Large Production Quality Pots

Well the good news is that it was only a pot, and not a medical diagnosis :)

    Agreed. I wouldn't touch a pot with a crack.

Selling year-old Baldcypress seedling in hand-made ceramic

Folks... we're talking about a bald cypress seedling here. I think the OP was pretty open about saying it was a seedling in a handmade pot. If you are interested, make an offer. If not, perhaps provide some constructive criticism and move on. I'm not sure why people are getting so worked up...

How to take care of my potted Acer palmatum trees.

Japanese maples go into and come out of winter dormancy slowly. Once they are fully dormant, just set them on the ground and mulch around the pots. Make sure they remain moist (but not soaking wet). If you are about to have a cold winter storm it helps to water them prior to the cold front...

Japanese maples in the Inland Empire? A tough task. I couldn't even keep them in the OC close to the coast.

At what temps do you bring in your tropicals?

No, but they are on a long bench in front of a sunny SE facing window.

At what temps do you bring in your tropicals?

In Zone 8a I bring mine in any time there is a threat of frost at night. Right now they are still outside and it appears we will continue to have mild weather at least through the 27th. In prior years I've been bringing them in somewhere around mid-December (for the duration of the winter)...
