    Witch hazel ground layer

Using plumbers tape to make a graft. Anyone else ever use this? Not the prettiest solution. It seems to work really well, but time will tell.

    Plectranthus....whats that?

This tree was getting too big, in that the branching was starting to break under its own weight. It's very brittle material and the segmented growth makes them vulnerable at the joints. I mentioned earlier that the whole tree bounces when I carry it around. This may be a way they can propagate...

    Winter Hazel

This will be the 6th growing season without repotting. The drainage seemed a little impeded last year so I removed the top 1" of soil and replaced it with new (soji). Also, if you look closely you'll see a guy wire/turnbuckle pulling down the top right branch of the crown which was growing...

    Witch hazel ground layer

This is after one growing season. The old flowers have been removed and care taken not to cut off vegetative buds nearby. 1. Choices were made for which branches will be allowed to form the apex/crown of the tree. Some may be removed later. The wire was applied early to give better direction...

    Crataegus X ???

Well, here’s the new shoes as promised. One problem with it is that I discovered a dunt in the pot after it was planted. Must has occurred while sitting on the shelf as I check them as they come out of the kiln. Hopefully it’ll last through the season. I have the old one just in case.

    Chainsaw Kwanzan Cherry

I just answered a post about these cherries and I thought it may be a good time to update this. As you can see many of the branches are getting pretty leggy, so after flowering this is going to get a big cut back. The top has only been wired to compact the image for flowering. It will be cut off...

    Kwanzan cherry questions

Not all Kwansans are grafted. Mine is not grafted and was grown as a seedling from the Arbor Day give-aways. Many graft are quite good and are hard to spot, but you can look for a change in bark color/texture (especially when the tree is wet) or an unusual swelling in the trunk. Kwansans can be...

    Hand-me-down JM

I haven't shown a spring photo of this for a while. I moved a lot branching around with heavy wire and undercutting branches along with turnbuckles. Starting to get some good ramification.

    Shohin Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

First real repot w/root reduction. Branching was becoming pretty leggy so it got 50% reduction. Not sure what’s going to happen……stay tuned.
