Imported trees coming to the US

Vance, your climate is probably too cold for it. Not to say you couldn't keep one. But, it probably wouldn't go as well that far north.

Really ? A lot of people where I am from have very nice black pines. We just protect them in winter.

Good! Glad to hear it. I just know that Bill Valavanis told me that he and several others had lost some nice JBP in his area a couple years ago. Due to cold. So, he was changing his attention away from JBP to pines like Svots that are more suited to his climate.

Sure, if you can adequately protect them, no problem. Unfortunately, many don't, and are disappointed when their tree dies. Other pines, more suited for cold conditions, may be hardier.

Here's a photo of the boxes:

I don't do facebook. Curious what these trees are priced online. Just hit the nursery over lunch and they looked to all be from $175-$375 and freshly potted up in nursery cans. Helluva variety. Some pretty interesting multi-trunk "clump" types, and I don't usually care for the look. The 20% off sale is in a couple weeks, soo....

$175 to $375?

Can't be right.

I'll take every one of them for that price!

I think you dropped a zero!

The smaller ones (relatively speaking) were definitely $175 and a good sized one I liked was $375..that's not to say there aren't several priced much higher or not out at all today.

Well no shit sherlock. Thanks for posting.
Most of the trees that came in the boxes I pictured earlier in the thread were sized like that one.

Looks like he's deleted those posts off Facebook.

Is this a typical root system for a tree this size....?

Too funny - it does look like a pine tree. Can't help but like it though, even if it's not very natural. Don't try and put it in the show, though - Kathy might throw it right out the window.

But speaking of defoliating pines, have you ever seen this blog post?

Of course I am only joking! I like it as well, and don't have a problem with how it has been styled. This is a very common approach it seems to Japanese styling of Maples, who ever styled it just has not caught on to the fact I guess that Deciduous trees don't grow like this according to some here in the states.

Interesting thread, by the way!

Wonder what is up with that?
I don't know...

I bet he was getting a lot of messages from people saying "how much is that one?" And stuff like that.

He said when he posted them it would take them a while to price them.

And that they're expecting another shipment in a week or two.
