Seeking variegated Chinese Elm

Check Forest Farm for the variegated elms and Acer campestre
https://www.forestfarm.com/

I've been in touch with them pretty consistently because they can sometimes get material from wholesale nurseries for me (if I ask nicely). They don't have any variegated U. parvifolia at the moment, and can't locate a source.

Do you want like a mother tree or you want a cutting? I can make a cutting if that's all you want. The one I'm thinking about posting is 50/50 bonsai.

Thank you! The bigger the better, obviously. Maybe the best course is for you to auction the tree, and I'll try to buy it. If I lose the auction, you can strike a cutting as it goes out the door :)

Gossler Farms carries Acer 'Carnival'. One wholesale nursery out of Salem, Oregon used to carry Frosty and Lois Hole. Their name is Youngblood. They may be able to supply you with the name of a retailer who has ordered one/both of them.

You guys are helping so much... I wish I had more positive feedback.

I contacted Youngblood back in April, and they said yes, they had 'Lois Hole' but they would not sell retail. So I spoke to Jen at Forestfarm, because they often carry Youngblood trees. Jen didn't get up there this year until July, and there was some 'problem' with the elms that I never got the inside scoop on - just that she didn't pick any up. Here's what Youngblood said:

As for the Ulmus we have a batch but they are having some problems of their own, you can make the call weather or not you want to try some when you get here.

I continue to pursue leads, and I'm sure I will find some out there somewhere.

Contact Glen Lord, curator of The Arnold Arboretum' Larz Anderson Collection. I believe he has variegated Chinese Elm.

Glen has a couple of different variegated elms... now I just have to find something worthy of trading :)

Back to the drawing board. Someone REALLY wanted an elm bonsai... They paid $360 for this tree and outbid me :) Too rich for my blood :)

I hand it to John - I didn't think it would sell at $300. But he got $360 from someone who obviously fell in love with that particular tree.

I just want a cutting, LOL!

I used to overwinter my elms in Chicago in an unheated garage. I would wait until the leaves dropped and then move them onto shelves in the garage. Just had to be sure the soil never dried out - so I would put snowballs on them and when the snow was gone it was time for more snowballs :)
