Last (ever?) Mirai Tree Sale

I did not enter my address, I just read the white glove service infos on the bottom of each tree for sale. $700 is not bad at all for each one of your tree.

Shipping Method | Fine Art Delivery - Rates are $1 per mile from zip code 97053 with fuel surcharge estimate of $0.53 per mile. See our shipping policy for more info. A base rate of $750 is added at checkout. Final rates will be reconciled prior to delivery.
We used that service (thanks izzy for the rec!) and it was something like $3500 one way from Oregon to Rochester. But it is a pretty big sprinter van and can be filled with quite a few trees.

Received an email with some good news; Mirai is offering a new version of classes at Mirai in 2025. It’s a variation of the previous intensives but require an annual commitment. 3 classes in the year and is actually cheaper than when it was a standalone intensive.

So, I'm wondering how he is going to make the bulk of his income. I would guess seminars, on-site teaching and private bonsai maintenance.
I would think he is going to receive a healthy salary as an employee/officer of the new non-profit.

Since future tree sales are going through the non-profit, I wonder if these non-profit purchases can be partially written off on tax returns?

Looks like they're auctioning a few trees Tuesday. I've seen a couple teasers, and there's a countdown on the site, but I haven't found any more details (like if shipping is available) or duration (to be fair, I haven't looked very hard).

I recieved a mail, showing trees (probably the trees that will be available) and with this description :

"""A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE TREES OF MIRAI

Over the years, we’ve created trees that carry meaning—reflections of time, craft, and intention.

This Memorial Day weekend, a small number of those trees will become available, through the first ever Mirai Tree Auction.

Opening Friday, May 23rd, and closing Monday, May 26th, this is your chance to step into the legacy of some of Mirai’s most iconic work.

Each tree holds a story.

Each one is waiting for the right caretaker.

Could it be you? """

The shipping is detailed in the terms of service. Looks like they ship internationally.

They have estimate market values with them. Don't know if there are minimums on them. Waaaaaay too rich for me 😁 . Trees are very VERY nice though. A few have history with American bonsai artists. The ponderosa was Ryan's first tree for instance.

Nice trees for sure and as usual. It's nice they are making high quality trees available to others. I'm also sure they are worth what people will pay for them.

I'm not one of them because I just don't have the zeros in my bank account to justify it.

No trees or example trees visible from here. It ight be that they just limit who can access the auction with a region ban on the website?

Guess they just didn’t change their fine print:

Any link to see how the auctions take place (just curious) ?
On this link, i just see the trees on a video :

@clem even from right here 30 minutes from the US border I had to use a VPN to pseudo-situate myself in the USA, and also turn on private browsing, to be able to view the trees

because this was never the case in the past, I would guess that when limiting the product purchases to buyers in the USA the visibility of those products was coincidentally limited, unintentionally (and if nobody tells him, he might not know since it looks fine from where he is)

I sent them an email, hopefully they can rectify this issue. I know there are several members that have direct access to Ryan and his team, so hopefully they can contact them directly as well.

Did anyone notice this little detail in the IG post that I posted? My interpretation is that trees are only available for purchase within the continental US because you have to carry on working on them through some sort of hands-on Mirai program

That, or.. Those that at Mirai they deem experienced enough. In Japan often the better trees are not for sale based on the availability of money. You need to have shown experience in caring and developing trees at that level.
However, that defeats the whole auction side of things.
