This evening I was looking at this little hemlock wondering if I should remove the bar branch on the right, midway up the tree, possibly leave a jin. That would leave only 6 branches. Or maybe just thin it a bit.
Is it the right thing to do?

To my eyes, this isn’t a bar branch, and even if it was, its not going to be causing any problems for a while. Leave it, keep your options open.

Today, I slipped these maples into a basket of pumice as the planter things were not holding up (oops!). Didn’t actually take a picture, but I DID get my nails done for a wedding.

Repotted these two azalea that I bought earlier this year. They were both in pretty small pots and needed repotting next spring anyway. The one on the left wasn't getting enough water penetrating into the soil and was starting to lose its leaves so I had to do something. The one on the right was a bit better off but didn't want problems with it too.

Did slightly more than a slip pot but did not mess with the roots too much. I removed them from the pots and scraped the surface of the soil and put them on these pots that are about twice the size of the current pots and buried them a bit deeper. They were in 100% Kanuma and I put 100% Kanuma in the new pots.

Will make sure they are in the best spot for winter protection and hope they both recover next spring. The one on the right should be ok, will see about the one on the left.

Thank you.
Did some further browsing, I think mine might be Faulkner variety.
Still not sure, I'll just call it box for now.

My friend, Krysi, whom I've known since we were sophomores in highschool, is moving to Minnesota this week. A couple of us from the old childhood gang went to say goodbye today.
She can't fit all her houseplants in the car, so she gave me her benjamina.

A bit sunburned from an abrupt move outside for the first time in it's life, but a nice thick trunk with a low split to two. Need to find something big enough to start training the nebari outward.

Rainy today, so just doing some research and Gafu-ten book study. Hopefully I'll have a new resource to share on here before too long.

But wait, I'm not so sure about that translation...

I have a Gafu-ten book and some of the tree name translations I've been getting from using Google translate have taken some deeper research to figure out. I will have to check my notes later to show some examples. Off the top of my head I remember what we call princess persimmon they call old man persimmon. And shimpaku was translating to emperor's maple.

Yesterday I got to spend the whole day at the Wisco-bonsai open house and anniversary party. So many amazing tree conversations were had! I was on the judging panel for he novice talent contest and there were a lot of amazing trees!
