Would dawn redwood to root cutting be posted in deciduous or other evergreen forum spot. Didnt want post in wrong place and make extra work or make messy post . Very much apologize. Also do you know is there any place on here thst lists places reputable to buy seeds or seedling or saplings or is that just read and see what's offered as nice places . Wasnt sure if anything pinned anywhere . Having alot trouble finding some cultivars I'm hoping to use to turn into bonsai. Ofc ill use regular species stock too but had hoped find a few cultivars to work with for there flowers or foliage but not sure where to go and start with .

Technically dawn redwood is a deciduous conifer… I guess the “other conifer” section would be good. Although we’re not that picky here, the “deciduous” section would work as well. What Are some of the species are you looking for? Sheffield seeds is a pretty good place to look for seeds. 😉

Zelkova serrata sadly is out of stock , the other stuff is mainly cultivars that I can't find source for dawn redwood "silhouette " and "jack frost" zelkova serrata "variegata " . (I have "goshiki" and love it though it's not bonsai but as yard tree) ty info on posting just didnt want make waves If posted wrong place since newer to forum here and ik in other forums things can be hyped (though was a gardening forum not bonsai one)

I am not alone in advocating for minimizing the term “deciduous” in favor of something more specific like “broadleaf deciduous” just for these cases!

I have two of the “amber glow” dawn redwood if that interests you, I would be happy to root you some cuttings or send cuttings in spring when I chop them back. The cultivars you are looking for are very rare. You could try reaching out to conifer kingdom and see if they can locate them for you. Never hurts to ask.

That would be awesome. Just let me know how much and all and I'll make sure to save up

They root very easy. I have a teeny tiny one rooted in one of my bald cypress pots. I literally stuck a tiny twig in the dirt and it rooted.

Nice

Do you have any interest in bald cypresses? Their growth habits and appearance are very similar to dawn redwoods and readily available.

Tbh looking more at bald cypress they are very amazing too , reading there even more water tolerant and those buttresses/knees are phenomenal.

I do have a few seedlings, I can ship you one If you would like. Also, I’m not sure if he has any more he’s willing to let go but @Cajunrider is the bald cypress guru around here. He dug and planted like a zillion cypresses this past year 😂 He also is very knowledgeable about them. The ones he gets out of the swamp have awesome taper, fluting and buttressing.
