In 2015 i started some seeds (zelkova serrata, pinus thunbergii, acer palmatum, acer buergerianum). Part of them i placed in small pond baskets. I ordered enough so i had laying them around. For bigger sized trees i would airlayer these species (except pinus), but for the small sizes i will try if starting them in a small pond basket (13cm across and 7,5cm deep) has advantages. I know these zelkovas will produce roots anyway, but before planting on a wooden plate i would like to have some roots already there...

They are starting to grow roots. Repotted in march, now 2,5 months later.

Looks like it is working.Especially with the aerated soil too.
Any plans for size and style for the zelkova?
