Yamadori Texas Post Oak

Hey Y’all! Trying to graduate beyond my p. Afra collection, and figured I would start with Yamadori to keep my financial investment low.

I found a very interesting Post Oak tree that I collected late December. I haven’t found many examples of Post Oak bonsai, but hoping y’all might have some survival tips and maybe styling ideas.

VERY interesting starter tree. Actual genuine Yamadori for a change. Certain is Post? Bark looks like Blackjack. Most happy to see it growing. Many branch choices on boring straight trunk great for future cut back. Maybe want to sell some day?

Yamadori is "collected stock" in English for the most part. Has been for quite awhile, until some folks wanted to be more exclusive for their trees...

BTW, if you're going to be precise with "yamadori" meaning "mountain" then you're going to have to define mountain...As far as I know, there are no "real" mountains in Austin...just sayin...

Yamadori is extremely abused and misused on this forum. Stumps, cultivated plants and barkless saplings dug from the wild do NOT qualify. Yours is pretty good example of real thing. What is white substrate around root ball? Leaves of Post/Blackjack seem often to not look like perfect desired example with added lobes.

Did your tree make it through the summer? Post Oaks are touchy trees. They hate to have their roots messed with. I hope it went well for you.
