Yamadori first time

So today I collected a plant. I think it’s an elm, but not so sure. Can anyone tell me what it is? Still having a hard thing telling it myself. Advices, opinions regarding the plant are accepted. Tell me whatever you think.
I put in a fairly light soil to promote root growth(around 60-70% perlite plus peat moss)
It’s a bit top heavy so I fixed it down with a wire and a big stone. The pot is a 24cm diameter terracotta pot. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good start. It looks elm-ish. Alternate buds, elm shaped leaf. If so it's probably tough enough to survive collection after leafing out. Ideally you'd want to collect the tree when the buds start moving but before the leaves are out all the way. Now you should protect it from strong sun, wind, heat....keep it moist (not soaked), mist often....and do nothing else with it. Your goal for the first growing season is just to let it replace the roots it lost during collection.

Yeah, i’ve been eyeing out this tree, but hust git busy with exams to collect it. A bit too late...

@BrianBay9 Do i have to do the bag trick? I heard you do it to protect the yamadori.

I've never bagged trees, but then I'm in a pretty moist environment here. Are you hot and dry? It's mostly used to control loss of moisture. If you decide to bag your tree make sure you don't put it out in direct sun. That would surely get too hot.

I mean it depends here in our city, like for 1-2months we almost had a pretty dry days, no rain at all. Today it rained but then becomes a tad bit arid. Usually depends a lot in the season. Like we might have a full week of rain next week. Other than fall and spring, the city is usually pretty dry.

Does many buds and some growth means it’s successful?

I wouldn't stop holding my breath. We heat with wood. Split and stacked wood grows buds and growth. Just allow the thing to continue to push growth unhindered. It's a good sign. But doesn't guarantee success this early in the game.
