Found this $70 hinoki at the local Steve’s ace. It’s got a little bit of movement in the trunk, some odd crossing branches. But there are a lot of lower branches to work with. Can’t really feel into the soil for a negative, it’s pretty compacted. Is it worth buying? Don’t have one yet :)

I just perused the Hinoki Madness thread.

Some good info led by Vance himself.

I'd snag it up. If I were you and you fancy one.

Sorce

Certainly looks healthy but doesn't look any different than the rows of Hinokis at the garden center.
I saw dozens of them today that looked comparable.
What makes this one special for you?

I saw some at HD for cheaper and bigger than that just the other day.

Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one locally, I’ve looked online at some and this seemed like a good deal. I don’t have a HD here and menards keeps enforcing the mask thing so I’ve only been to Lowe’s round here. My local nursery is overpriced and doesn’t have them

Also, snagging this one here and mixing it into the others keeps the wife from seeing a large box shipped to the house

I picked it up last night, just couldn't help myself. I just read the hinoki madness thread and will be researching to come up with a plan. It will need a repot at some point, a reduction or chop as well, I also want to use whatever I prune as cuttings. But first, keep it healthy.
