Alright so I seem to be getting differing opinions on whether or not wood hardener actually prevents rot. I've read that it does, and I've read that it doesn't.

Does anyone have any personal experience with using wood hardener to seal large cuts on Ficus?

Ryan,

over on IBC, Billy on the space coast, stated that they just use acrylic paint to coat the wound.

Additionally to heal any wound, you need a branch to extend. Normally over or near the wound.
So if you have taken to pruning too frequently, and see no callus formation taking place, that might be your problem.

See also information from Cathy Shaner, I think someone said she uses wood putty to seal cavities.

Ficus wood remains permanently soft and weak, the wood hardener might only harden the first 3 mm of the surface of the exposed wood.

As usual test on expendable plants.
Good Evening.

Thanks! I was actually just looking at wood putty and contemplating whether or not to experiment with it.

It's definitely not an issue of pruning too much though, that I know for sure.
