Hi all,

This is my current wintering set up. I’m moving at the end of November into a house after living in the same place for 20 years so it may change how I continue this wintering season. The new place will have a garage but I don’t know if it’s heated or unheated, but I’m thinking most of these trees will continue to live indoors over the course of the winter.

Would you guys recommend a spider farmer light? My family jokes of how it looks like I was trying to run a nursery which they probably aren’t far off.

Any help or guidance is appreciated. I expect the jades will drop their leaves but I’m hoping they bounce back. Long live the porcelain sanctuary.

Congrats on your next place!

The set up as is seems ok given the heat mat is on a thermostat set at 65 to 75.

Jade types are pretty tough, so as long as the light, temperature and watering are in bounds all will be well.

My parents lived in Oak Ridge for many years They had a “semi heated” garage… residual heat from the HVAC system. Could get down in the high 30’s at times. It was pretty dry during mid winter. So watch water/humidity closely. An enclosure could help.

We have a Spiderfarmer and it’s a whole new level of light. Variable and the proper spectrum. Make a nice Christmas present.

Cheers

I only have one heat mat for the tent everything else is scattered around.

Sorry. In that case, looks like your best bet is to get a bigger heat mat or Daisy Chain smaller ones on the thermostat to cover all your plants. One can get or make vinyl tents pretty easy. Another similar light would work

If the garage has an accessible window that would also help.

Cheers

Thanks DSD. Are spider lights suspended somehow? Daisy chained? Don’t know any appropriate place to do that.

I did

Yes, they are usually suspended. You can daisy chain the majority of the models… there are quite a few. Usually we hand these from the ceiling joists.

Oh boy, lots of questions. So sorry about this…

Image shows a non insulated garage. Also can’t see any electrical outlets in the image.

Are there any outlets, or is this part of an on going construction project. ( If so is the garage going to have electrical, insulated and drywalled?).

Finally Is this garage attached to a home?

The landlord told me I could run power out there via extension cord but I was pointing out that window. The garage is in the back yard.

Jade usually do fine indoors as long as they are in a sun facing window during at least 1/2 a day. They may not flourish, yet with reasonable care will remain healthy during winter.

Another better option that we use is a LED Plant stands. Only issue is be careful with water.

Some are stylish ..,

Here is one similar to ours by spider farmer which might be a solution for you.

Just hook ether up to a timer!

Mixed reviews it seems. What’s your experience? Is there no timer? Do you have them suspended from the ceiling? Not sure I will be able to do that.
I love them, they are stable and put out amazing light. I do have them hung from the ceiling. There is an option to run them from a computer, but I just use Kasa app controlled AC outlets instead, that can be programmed.
