Winged Elm with an Interesting... Shape

Just wanted to share this photo of a winged elm I collected this Spring. Took a while to throw out new growth, with the new shoots coming only from the developing callus tissue at the chop site. This was a bit unexpected, but I don't have too much experience with this species.


The shape is, interesting...🫣

Will add more photos as it develops. I will probably need to do leader selection earlier than i would like, since the entire rim of the chop site is covered in shoots.

A lot of elms like to push buds at the chop site, I assume that's why broom style elms are seen pretty often.
