Thank you for your time! I have three bonsai trees and have noticed on my newest one, a miniature Yaupon Holly, there is this small patch of fuzz at the base of the trunk. I would assume it to be mold. I have had her only a couple days and would like to know best course of action please? Again, many thanks!

I planted a seedling tray of veg....
And Only the onions grew a fine white hair fungus? On the surface...even before the seedling emerged....
Beneficial bacteria are smarter and faster and more abundant than we think I think!

I notice fuzz where fertilizer rests on my soil. Could be also from that. Some fuzz/mold is a beneficial thing. Crazy but true...as Sorce states.

Is it fuzz like mold or a little more grainy?
Sometimes if you have hard water high in calcium for example, it will leave white deposits as well.

I will take a much closer look when I get home. I did water just a tad last evening, but that was first watering here since purchase. Will check in to it! Thanks!

In my area its the worst. After 3-4 waterings (which here means span of 1-2 days) I get calcium deposits all over haha.....
I just use a 5 gallon jug of spring water, once a week for the day to get rid of it.
And btw @LoriAnn if it is calcium it will hurt your eyes and ego, but not your tree

Only my third tree and I must confess, third in about 4 weeks. It was my birthday recently and they saw I finally bought one so a couple more appeared. I just had not seen that on the other two but know different trees, different aspects. Thank you all for your responses!

Water it! It looks like it needs watering. Certainly don't dry it out, out of worry for the white stuff.
If it's fuzzy, I'd say a type of fungus. It's a good fungus.
I watched a David Attenborough, kingdom of plants. Was very good, but I do love his docs. He talked about fungus and how beneficial they are for 90% of all plant life and trees in the world. The forest floor has miles and miles of white fungus roots and network running under the soil, all beneficial.
It's the closest I can relate, white fungus, stringy. Yours is white and fuzzy, seems similar enough lol.
Perhaps tell us about the plants care, conditions, soil/substrate? More info could help. But I would say look out for health issues on the tree trunk, branchs and leaves. Actually in the tree. Discolourations. If it is all good, no issues, spots, black etc, then I wouldn't worry.

I did water it the other night, have only had it 4 days. The rest of the tree does look well outside of traveling from California to Vermont.
Yes, I am new to this but watering isn't the problem. My other two are fine, haven't seen this. I will continue to let it set.

this is a dwarf yaupon holly and like @ConorDash said you need to water it.
They naturally grow near marshes and wetlands in the south east. I would get the dead leaves out of there and repot in good draining soil. Once in that soil it should be watered everyday and stay outside all the time. It needs humidity.

Thank you all for your responses. As due respect I should have responded to each, but it has been a very busy couple of weeks. My apologies. Will do better. This issue is now a non-issue as many suggested let it do its thing. No more white fuzz! Thank you all so much for your advice. Greatly appreciated.
Greatly appreciated.Conor, just seeing your response. I do water it very often, and spritz as well. It gets fresh air when weather permits, which we are looking at a good 5 day run as we are in Vermont. Anxious for summer here! But, yes, lots of fresh air weather permitting.
