I live in a dry climate. I am really starting to enjoy plants with areal roots and I want to grow one. I have been reading up on areal roots and how to get them to grow but I also want to stack the deck in my favor as much as possible.

Right now the plan is to grow an umbrella tree right next to an indoor water fall (for moisture) as well as put a humidity dome/wrap/cellophane around the trunk keeping as much moisture locked in as possible. Another thing that appeals to me about the umbrella tree is that I can keep it indoors which would be nice to have a bonsai that I dont have to walk outside to enjoy.

I am also curious where would be a good place to get an umbrella tree. Are there any places I should check out in particular? Im guessing the usual plant nurseries and what not. I was walking through Lowes Hardware the other day and surprisingly they had quite a few healthy dwarf ones a few feet high and while the trunks werent fat and ugly yet, I would be obliged to get one if they can grow fast (which Ive read that they do).

Other candidates of areal roots are various ficus.

Any advice would be great.
