Greetings,

I Have 2 Maturing Trident Maples Approx. 12-15 Years Old. Clearly 2 Different Phenos from the Same Seed Stock.

#1 Has a Few Dozen Reachable/Visual Seeds, Pretty Sure this is the First Season She Produced Seeds.
I am Hoping These Seeds will be Viable. They Just Started to Change Color with the Yellow and Pink.

Any Ballpark as to When These will Drop (Before or After Leaves)??
I am Located on the Eastern Shore, Maryland Zone 7b.

Do to the VERY Limited Amount of Seeds if I Wait Until they Drop, I'll Loose Nearly All of Them.
I was Thinking of Tying Collection Bags on the Branches Closer to D-Day.

Thanks,
-Dutch

Trident maple seed hangs on the tree well into winter, long after the leaves have fallen but they will be ripe and viable around the time when the leaves fall. I don't think you will have any problem losing the seed.

Great News... Thanks for the Reply.
Would You Stratify the Seeds and Plant in Spring or can I get a Head Start Indoors Over the Winter??

I just sow trident seed outdoors and they germinate in spring with no messing about with treatment. Fresh seed should germinate with little or no stratification. Seed just scattered on the garden bed in spring gave really good germination here.
You may get some head start sowing indoors but will need really good conditions - light, etc and there is a risk of fungal and other problems. I prefer to just wait for spring and do it simply.
