I was done at work about 1 PM and 2 hours later I had 3 fat boy yaupons sitting in my mini van. The big one is a beast and wouldn't fit in my biggest mica pot... luckily, I had a very large and empty wooden grow box sitting in the garage. Lots of work ahead for these before they'll amount to anything but the trunks and base should make the time and effort worthwhile.

I thought you were getting into Shohin!

Boy, I say Boy! Them’s TEXAS Shohin! No wonder you run out of pumice all the time!

You and @markyscott are trying to make it look like I only have small bonsai!
With their muscled trunks and small elliptical leaves, they remind me of olives... that big one is not as big as your beast olive, but it'll need a Chinese pot for sure:eek:.

This one had to come out today for the new patio and bench project. Taxus Kinda feeling the "What the hell..."View attachment 178779
That's a good one with a nice base and lower trunk... you may want to get rid of the garden soil sooner then later, though. Good luck with it

@Dav4 those look very cool, I'll be following and could probably be talked into helping in exchange for a couple pulls of the cough meds, hmm hm. I actually just pulled one last summer which I'm afraid may have not made it through the deep freeze this winter. Luckily my Aunt has one more that's just gotta go...

I knew something was missing from my collecting tools. Bet I'd get down the mountain a lot faster on bourbon!

Yes I'm sure you are right. I just put the yard dirt back into the pot and it is clay heavy. My landscaper wanted to throw it in his burn pile. He planted it for me about 30 yrs ago on another barter deal LOL Does have a nice trunk... Maybe I should...

Nice....

Shoulda been 101 though....

Little disappointed.

Them are big uns. The third and fourth shots show a tree with huge potential! Good luck finding a pot for them..:D

So, it took over 2 months for ANY buds to form on these trees... I was beginning to think these were doa or killed by one of the several late freezes we had during this last particularly screwy late winter and spring.... but they all seem to be cooking with gas now:cool:.

One question. Is the cut down milk jugs just a larger version of a pvc fertilizer cup? I'm guessing easier than keeping 18-20 pvc cups topped off?

Yeah, for my very large trees in grow boxes, I've decided to try this... holes poked in the bottom to allow drainage but contain the ferts... so far, so good.
