Hello! Can someone help me determine what kind of tree is in the picture? Is it possible that it is Zelkova? I found the seedling on the side of the path in the park.

Thanks for confirmation. I need to visit that park again now to search for more seedlings ;)

Zelkova and Katsura!
Thank you for identifing second seedling. I was thinking about making better photo of it for identification. So it is Katsura! I am thinking what will be Katsura better for - as bonsai or as decoration garden tree.

It is not enough to say that it is Zelkova. It is necessary to find out which Zelkova this is: Caucasian (Carpinifolia), Japanese (Serrata), Chinese (Schneideriana/Sinica)...? It could be any of these three, although it most resembles the Japanese Zelkova, which is not 100% reliable. In any case, it is neither Cretan nor Sicilian Zelkova. It is also unlikely that it is a Chinese Zelkova, so it is either Japanese or Caucasian. In Europe, Caucasian is much more common, while in the USA, Japanese predominates, as far as I know.
The easiest way to reliably determine it is to find a mature tree nearby and compare the leaves, bark... With such young saplings, the determination is not the most reliable.

In the future, when I go to the park again where I found this seedling, I will try to find the parent tree. There was also a name tag on some of the trees, so I will check to see if the exact name will be there. Maybe I'll find another seedling around the tree that I can save from the mower :D
