Per the online Japanese dictionary by Jim Breen,
a 台 (dai) or 台座 (daiza) is a stand or pedestal.
卓 There are two readings for this character, Shoku and Taku.
Taku is also used as a counter for Tables.
根卓 Netaku is a root stand.
架台 Kadai is a stand, frame or Abutment.
Your first character for 職 shoku is unrelated to tables and stands. It is a character for Job, employment or work....
Although the reading is the same in Romanized form (shoku) it is not the character for table.
