I found a beautiful non-grafted maple at my local nursery. Any idea what this cultivar is?

If it is a non-grafted tree without some record of where it came from, it is just a regular Japanese maple.
Thanks! The leaves and bark of the tree are darker than my others, so I guess it is a just a variation.

Probably a seedling from a red cultivar, very interesting leaf coloration on it. Nice little tree.

Correct. Every seedling has a new mix of genes. Some look very similar to the parent but, due to extensive variation in the species, some have differences. You are able to claim and name your tree as a new variety if you wish but most of us just grow them for the individual look of the tree.
