I picked up this weeping crabapple at my local nursery today! They gave it to me because they sprayed all their trees with something and this tree didn't like it. They thought it was going to die but I thought I could save it! Think there is any hope for it?

The only thing that is have me pause is...it's a stressed tree...from a nursery wasn't left to recover. Yet looks like you put it into a bonsai pot. That...it was stressed...and you did root work and such. Would make me pause for concern. Wishing you the best of luck.

And maybe put it in the shade for a week or so.

The tree was already in a bonsai pot when it was given to me but they wouldn't let me the pot so I gently took the tree out of the pot and put it in a plastic bag with the rest of the dirt from the pot. When I got home I placed it in one of my pots and filled the rest of the pot with the dirt from the other pot. I didn't touch the roots or even wire it into the pot because I knew that would probably stress it out more. I will put it in the shade tho and won't give it any fertilizer, thanks! ☺

Some of that damage on the trunk looks like a wood borer(sp?) of some sort. Might want to look into that.

Yes I believe that about half of the tree's trunk is dead leaving the other half feeding only the two longer branches. The third shorter branch on the top is dead as well. The two longer ones seem to be quite alive and bendable tho. I'm hoping if it survives to do something about the wood bores. I haven't seen any bugs on the tree yet tho! I'll just be happy if it survives ☺
