Virginia Pine Bunjin

Looks like it’s starting to bark up nicely at the base. How did you go about collecting it? Were you able to get all the feeder roots closer to the trunk or did you have to chop around the perimeter of the tree previous spring to stimulate root growth closer to the trunk? What kind of soil was it in?

This was collected out of duff on an exposed rock in the Piedmont area of North Carolina with a very good rootball. My mentor collected it, it will be repotted in ‘26 so I’ll be able to tell you more about the roots then. Tyler got his hands on this tree and it now looks different enough I should post an update photo. Bark is ok, still a long way to go. My favorite conifer I own.
