Just potted up this Foemina Juniper last week. I’ve always wanted one and finally found one at a nursery near me.

It went through a pretty heavy root reduction but there were quite a lot of fine roots buried under 4 or 5 of soil so hoping it does ok. you can see the dark mark on the tree where the soil was buried up to. Potted into a Tokoname sankyu pot with 1:1:1 APL mix.

It’s out under a shade cloth for the next two weeks and getting misted twice a day and I’ll start feeding in a month or so.

The long term plan is to take a few of the top branches off and create a slightly shorter tree and pull the rest of the branching down over time. For now this is probably all I’m going to get to do this year.

Last week? You’re a bit late in the season here, the heat has arrived. Shade is a good idea for now. You should be able to work it again in the Fall.

It’s normally a little bit late but I live on a peninsula by the ocean and temps rarely get above 75. I think we have 1 day of 75 on Saturday and then the forecast drops to a high of 65.so I’m hoping that helps

Is autumn a good time to maybe remove underside growth? I heard with needle juniper it’s best to wire in the hottest part of summer but I assumed I’d hold off this year due to the late repot

You can do both things anytime. I would avoid heavy bends in the heat of summer though.
