Upload allowance?

Welcome to the site! You don't have an upload allowance :)

You can post 10 images per message here in the forums. Alternatively, if you wish to create an album to maintain all your photos, you can do so over in the member galleries:

I just checked, and the current limit was only 50MB. I just doubled it. I will have to play around with our image compression utility a little bit as well.

You told me there was no limit. What happens when I reach 100mb? I only uploaded 11 pictures so far and I'm already down to 4.1mb. Am I realistically going to be able to add all my pictures from all my projects here in the future?

Compress your pictures more? 11 pics at 4Mb? That is huge!

I think after 100MB you start paying for storage? Last I heard was 10 USD per Mb. Ask @sorce

I was mistaken - it has been a while since I checked the media gallery settings. There is no limit in terms of the images that you can post in the forum.

The primary reason why there is a limit is to prevent people from loading large images without compression onto the site. 100MB if you compress your images to 100K is 1000 images. (The largest current gallery is 180 images) If you load them uncompressed at 10MB per image... you get 10.

That is why I said I had to check into our compression utility and make sure everything was working properly. The site should automatically compress images if they are uncompressed. It sounds to me like you are loading images with an average size of 4MB... so you are running out of room quickly.

Eating squirrels? I'd like to see you try. I'm an English red with a short fuse. This Squirrel shoots back. They're not peanuts numbnuts..I'm trying to propagate Oak Trees!

Jokes aside.. Squirrel tastes like rabbit... this is just the truth.
🤣

(Also I would recommend documenting your photos in specific threads, other than importing via member media. It works.. better. ((For Me)))

(Yup... looks like @Bonsai Nut beat me to it.. *shakes fist in the air*... Foiled Again!)

was wondering about that. I never understood the reason for a media section if you can just post your pictures in a thread, with an explanation, and all together in a story of posts.

AHH I'm with you. So the site usually compress the image for me? I was just uploading pictures I took with my smartphone so I wasn't thinking about compression but it's something I can do..I can also change the settings on my phone and bring the quality down a bit if needs be...Thanks for your help Guys.

I've got a compression utility that runs in the background 24/7. If someone uploads an image of anything (even a tiny GIF) and it isn't compressed, the utility should compress it. Sometimes the gain can be really small, but sometimes the image can be compressed 90% without a noticeable decrease in quality.

However, like everything with this site, I have to make sure the utility is working as intended. The gallery images are stored separately from the forum images, and I just have to make sure the compression utility is finding everything. The first time I ran a full scan of all the site images, it took a week :) We have a lot of images from years of posts, so I can't always complete required maintenance instantly.

I run this site on redundant SSD drives, so it is fast... but the storage is expensive. I always have to keep an eye on it so that we keep things as small as possible, while still providing great image quality and great speed.
