I collected this native mayhaw (Crataegus opaca) in a swampy area on my property. This is not the best specimen out there, I collected it primarily to see how well it took to collection.

So far, it has obviously responded very well. There was significant root reduction and a major trunk chop, but it has sent out new shoots, some over 6" long already and it's only been a few weeks since bud pop.

I want to start thinking about how I might style it. It obviously lends itself to raft-style, which I am not super fond of to be honest. The tall trunk on the right is quite large, chopping it would never heal over. I would rather find some way to integrate it into the design, although I can't image how I would.

If anyone has any ideas, I am open to hearing them. Either way, enjoy the photos of this weird beast, so far the experiment has proven successful.
