Yamadori
I visited a friend in Portland, OR and she had these great trees and was gracious enough to allow me to try air layering some branches. I used damp sphagnum moss and rooting hormone.
I am pretty sure I removed all of the phloem and vascular cambium, but I suppose only time will tell.
How do you even know the difference between the layers? I was going off of minor color differences.

Japanese Maple in front yard (and the main reason she bought this particular house).

Here is an example of the different layers (if I understand correctly).

Laceleaf

Maple
I am not sure what Maple this is, but she said she is going to have it removed anyway, so I prepped a couple of branches on it, too. Hopefully I can ramify the leaves down over time.
