I got this Trident from Evergreen Garden Works last year and feel it's time for a trunk chop as it has very little taper. I was thinking just above the first branch and trim that branch as well. Is that enough foliage to support the tree?

Yeah? I was worried about how high the first branch is already and wanted to induce some back budding. Or at least that was my thought.

People normally work bottom up. Work the root first as thats the harvest to fix if theres issues with it down the road.

Yeah, I was thinking similar. Just was thinking of the bottom third. So you are saying just let it go right now and thicken up. Maybe even repot and make sure the roots are flaring out nice and radially

Exactly this, just let it grow all year. It’s a bit late to repot this year judging by the leaves having unfurled already.

Work the roots next year, get it into the ground or grow box and let it grow again for a few years. It’ll backbud below the chop when you get there. Roots first, trunk second, branches last
