This is a Trident Maple I recently purchased and need advice on where to go from here. I should repot in spring right? What styling options does this tree have?

I'd be trying to use the top of that hole to follow around with a ringbarking and layer it at the widest base you can.

Then let it grow a tell or 2.

I ditched the rock and this is how it turned out. I tried not to disturb the roots.

I live in Southern California so the winters can't even be considered winters so layering would be okay I think. Can you be more specific where I should layer?

Eactly at the point where the current toors come together would be the top of the layer. The individual rootlegs you partically strip off the bark. This will use the fluted base to the maximum.
