I love this time of year.
I wanted to show you the next project I worked on yesterday ( 1 24 13). I didn't like the old thread graft top I created a few years ago on the leader that didn't have any buds down low. It was still too bare below the graft, and needed two more grafts if I was going to keep it. However, I now had an entire top that was my plan B 4 years ago just to the rear of the old top, but I had to grow the trees base to get closer feeder roots so I could change the base and move the tree forward in the pot. I also did an approach graft to the top left since there were no buds to create a branch where I needed it. Here is a before and after.

The bottom right branch may be the new main branch, but at the least it'll be grown long to use as another approach or thread graft

I can't wait to see this in 5 years. Great start!

Just wanted to show what the trident looked like after its second trim for season. Thing is growing like crazy and the season has just gotten started!
