Hi folks,

I was given this last summer and it was already looking a bit dry and dead; when I checked the pot, there was a cavity the size of my thumb underneath it, so I repotted it into an open gritty mix to promote new root growth. The leaves all fell off and I wasn't sure whether it would survive, but this spring it pushed out buds on the trunk. I've chopped it back to a little above the new shoots, and will trim further once it seems a bit stronger.

I have no idea what kind of tree it is and plant identification apps don't have enough to work on. Does it look familiar to anybody?

Thanks again :)

It looks a bit like pommegrenate, but I'm only 40% convinced it is.
Thank you - that was one of the options it threw up, but didn't look quite right.

I'm wondering if it could be Pondo Waterberry, a type of myrtle? These pictures look quite similar, and it seems at least someone has tried bonsai-ing it (though I'd imagine that's true of almost anything!)
